Library Science Internship Log

Tina Woodward

Saturday and Sunday (Sep. 24-25th) – This weekend I began the massive task of cataloging the Lexington Log Cabins book collection. I began by surveying the books in the collection and compiling a list consisting of title, author, publication date and ISBN number. The collection is in excess of 200 titles, a little more than I was expecting! After I compiled the list I went home, got on the Internet and began cruising the Library of Congress website for call numbers. I was only able to get about 14 books done, but I learned a lot. For example, a few books included in the list are about Census of various small Texas counties. Those don’t have a number and I will have to do a little more research at my public library to find one for them. I also realized that I will need to ask the Cabins Board of Trustees if they want LC or Dewey numbers. For now, I am logging them both on my list. Before today, I only needed 36 internship hours. After today, it is clear that I will put way more than 36 hours into this project!
